For the third year, we convened an elite group of talent leaders from around the world on October 28-30, 2007. These 25 leaders, along with an eclectic faculty of academics, practitioners, researchers and writers jointly explored the edges of the talent universe. Using a structured brainstorming technique that Eileen Clegg, one of our faculty, and Kevin Wheeler have been perfecting over the past decade, they developed a "map" of the future of talent. This map showed the major trends and key themes that are emerging as critical to understanding how to position their talent functions for future success. The key themes discussed included, Web 2.0, the Generations, and social networks.
Kevin Wheeler kicked the retreat off by recapping emerging trends and issues that will either cause us great pain or great joy over the next five years. This fueled the group's brainstorming and energized our thinking throughout the retreat. The group also set off on a scavenger hunt of downtown Monterey, California to learn a little of its rich history and culture.
